Apartment Review
Overpriced apartment with awful service
Review Date: 11/17/2009 Reviewer: Anonymous
My roommate and I rented an apartment and had many problems with the apartment. The windows were not sealed and leaked when it rained. The wind would blow through the windows, making it impossible to heat or cool the apartment. Our ceiling was not sealed either. On several occasions, our upstairs neighbor spilled liquid--one time milk--and it rushed right through the ceiling. As soon as we heard "oh no" from above, our floor was soaked. Centerpoint failed to fix any of the problems with our apartment. My towel bar was never properly attached, and maintenance only "repaired" the problem by placing the towel rack back on the wall. As soon as a towel was hung, it fell again. And the apartment was very very loud. Every time the upstairs neighbor walked, rolled over in bed, or whatever, we heard everything. When we moved out, I asked about paint charges. I was told that the complex painted once every three years, and that if they were going to do a full paint on our apartment, that we would be charged 2/3 the cost because the paint had depreciated in value 1/3 over our tenancy. When we moved out, every piece of furniture was removed, and the employee recommended a partial paint. Despite this, Centerpoint charged us for a full paint, citing our damage as egregious, and refused to only charge us 2/3 of the cost after they explicitly promised to do so. The pictures we were shown included the broken towel rack, several place rubs on the wall, and two small holes that had been filled with spackle. Nothing was egregious about the pictures, and it was hard to imagine an inspector recommending a partial paint when there was in fact "egregious" damage. We lived in an arguably uninhabitable apartment--with a essentially a leaking roof and unsealed windows. It was an awful experience from beginning to end. |
